Help with damp and mould, from one local specialist
Tell us what's going on and where. We pass it to one independent damp and mould specialist who works near you. They get in touch, find the cause and give you a price. It's free, and there's no obligation.
One specialist, not a list. Your details aren't sold to five firms who all ring at once. One person who covers your area gets your enquiry. We're a matching service and don't do the work ourselves.
Who it's for
Homeowners
Black mould in the bathroom, a tide mark on the hall wall, a patch that spreads every time it rains. Find out what's causing it before you spend money on the wrong fix.
Landlords
A tenant has reported damp or mould and you need someone competent to look at it quickly, find the cause and put it right. What the law expects of landlords.
Letting agents
One contact for damp reports across the homes you manage, with the property count on the form so the specialist knows what they're taking on. For letting agents.
Tenants
The repair is your landlord's job, so we won't sell your details to a contractor. Our tenants' guide shows you how to report it and who to call if nothing happens.
What's causing your damp?
Damp isn't one problem. The fix for condensation is better ventilation and steady heat; the fix for a wet wall after rain is usually a gutter, a downpipe or some pointing. A good specialist finds the cause first. These pages explain each one and what it usually costs:
Condensation and ventilation
Streaming windows, spotty black mould in corners and on ceilings. Fans, vents and air flow.
Penetrating damp
Rain getting in through walls, roofs, chimneys and gutters. Patches that grow after wet weather.
Rising damp
A band of damp low on ground floor walls, with salts and crumbling plaster. Often misdiagnosed.
Damp proofing
Damp proof courses, membranes, tanking and replastering, and when each one makes sense.
Mould removal
Cleaning and treating mould properly, and stopping it coming back.
Black mould removal
The spotty black mould in bathrooms, bedrooms and behind furniture.
Damp and mould surveys
An independent look at the cause, with a written report. Useful before you pay for treatment.
Not sure which it is? Start with damp or condensation: how to tell.
West Midlands
Our first local pages cover the three West Midlands cities. Each one explains how to report damp to the council, the kind of housing that's common there and why it gets damp.
Birmingham
Victorian terraces, a big stock of inter-war homes, and one of the largest council landlords in the country.
Coventry
Rebuilt after the Blitz, full of terraces, and with no council homes of its own.
Wolverhampton
Post-war semis, 1940s prefabs being replaced, and council housing coming back in-house.
Elsewhere in England? Send the form anyway. We'll try to find a specialist who covers your postcode.
The law on damp and mould is changing
Social landlords in England now have legal deadlines for investigating and fixing damp and mould, under what's known as Awaab's Law. The government is consulting on applying similar rules to private landlords, but nothing is in force for private renting yet. Our Awaab's Law guide separates what's law today from what's only proposed, with links to the official sources.
Common questions
Is it really free?
Yes. You don't pay Mould and Damp anything. The specialist will tell you their price for a survey or a repair before doing any work, and you don't have to accept it.
Will I get calls from lots of companies?
No. Your details go to one specialist who covers your postcode. Nobody else gets them, and they aren't sold on.
Do you do the work?
No. We're a matching service. The specialist is an independent business who looks at the problem, quotes you and does the work if you agree.
I rent my home. Can you help?
Your landlord is responsible for fixing damp and mould that comes from disrepair, so we don't pass tenants' details to specialists. Our tenants' guide explains how to report it and what to do if your landlord doesn't act.
Where do you cover?
We take enquiries from across England, starting with the West Midlands: Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton. Elsewhere we'll do our best to find someone, but we can't promise.
Ask for a local damp and mould specialist
Free to use, no obligation, and your details go to one local specialist, not a list.
We're a matching service, not the firm that does the work. The specialist contacts you, looks at the problem and quotes you directly. Whether you go ahead is up to you.
